"DAILY BREAD"
01/17/06

"Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions."  (Exodus 16:4).

Most people feel that they don't have enough to do all the things they want to do without worrying. If it were up to us, we would have a lot of wealth stored up so that all our needs and desires would be met in advance. But this type of living doesn't require much faith or trust in God.

After the Lord had delivered the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt they found themselves hungry in the wilderness. Although they were slaves, they were use to having plenty of food around them.  So they grumbled and complained. God's solution was not to give them a large amount of provision, which could be stored up. Rather, he rained bread from heaven daily that they would have to collect it and trust Him for the next day's provision.

As Christians, we may feel that we had more wealth and success when we were in the world. But a relationship with God through Christ is about much more than natural needs and desires. It is about our trust in and obedience to God. So you may notice that the Lord doesn't give you everything in advance, but what you need, when you need it, by way of your obedience.
